Last week of October

Hi everyone,

I hope we all had a great long weekend.

Over the weekend we had three incidents on Saturday where a child was ill at the courts and I’m still following them up but it looks like it could have to do with children being a little dehydrated. I’ve seen many of the children on Saturday wearing their T-shirt and then putting their playing singlets over the top of it. It was 33° outside on the weekend and I’m presuming it would have been close to that temperature inside if not hotter.

I will be advising the coaches to sub the children on & off more regularly. In regards to wearing a shirt under the playing singlet, if your child is a little uncomfortable changing in front of others the toilets do have a change area in them. The coaches do encourage children to ask for a break when they are tired on the courts and parents also need encouraging your child to do this & please ensure they all have a water bottle & urge them to drink often. I have seen at training that the children do not want to drink but we all must enforce the rule to drink in the coming summer months.

I attended the extra training that is happening on a Saturday afternoon at Runcorn State High School. There was music playing and I left early but I heard they all got a frozen Super Dooper at the end of the session. If you want to improve as a player you do need to train more and those who are new to basketball these sessions will make a huge difference to your game.

The Under 12 & 14 representative trials are about 5 weeks away and we shall notify everyone when the trails are on.

We have not finalised all our training venues for next year but we have been able to obtain an extra eight hours of courts at Hibiscus for training. Having all these extra court hours will make a huge difference and one of the things that we will be doing is having 3 different days at Runcorn for our U8 & U10s to accommodate many more teams.

If your children have friends that would like to join, we will have lots of extra teams next year and we will be opening registrations early December.

Dates to keep open for our end of year break up:

# U7 – U13’s boys and girls on Sunday 12th December at Hibiscus Pool

# 15 Boys – Saturday 4th December 5pm – 8pm

# U17,19 FNYL – Saturday 27th November Runcorn State High School 5pm – 8pm

We will keep you informed about the above dates as we get closer.

Have a great week
