About Rockets U23
From 2026, Runcorn Rockets will be entering teams into the new U23 competition as part of the Optus Juniors structure.
The U23 program is designed to bridge the gap between junior and senior basketball – keeping our 17–23 year olds in the game, developing their skills, and connecting them to higher-level pathways such as QSL and QSL Youth League.
Games are planned for Friday nights, aligned with the junior competition.
Who is it for?
Our U23 program is ideal for:
Players born 2004–2007 (2026 Winter) who
are finishing U19s and want the next step up, or
are already playing senior domestic and want a more structured, development-focused team environment
Players aiming towards representative / QSL / college opportunities
Rockets juniors who want to stay involved in the club while studying, working or playing other sports
What makes U23 different?
The Rockets U23 program focuses on:
Long-term development, not just short-term results
Strong standards and culture – effort, attitude, team-first hoops
A clear pathway from:
Junior Domestic →
U23 →
Senior Domestic & QSL / Youth League
Opportunities for young leaders – captains, peer mentors, and potential future coaches
Coaches & support staff
We’re also building a support team around our U23 program:
Head Coaches & Assistant Coaches – with a focus on teaching, game planning and player development
Team Managers – helping with logistics, communication and game day organisation
Opportunities for current and former Rockets players to step into coaching and leadership roles
(Blue Cards and basic coaching accreditation will be required – we’ll share details and support options.)
