Hi Coaches,

We will all be back playing & coaching very shortly so I thought this might be a good time to start our coaching program, styles or philosophy.

During the break I have been viewing a range of drills and types of plays. I specifically looked at coaches that looked after age groups similar to our players.The coaches I followed were the U16 USA Coach, U18 Great Britain Coach, Greece’s National Coach and a couple of College coaches.

Over the next week (would like everyone to have access before we start up again) you will receive an email stating you have access to our Coaches folder in our Google drive. If you have a Google drive account and we have it you will get instant access if not you will just need to create a Google account and then tell us so we can give that account access.

I have named and listed the videos to make it easier for you to decide what you want to view.

Of course I am not going to tell you what to run but it would be great if Rockets teams could run a style of play called “Tagging up”. Tagging up has been played by Basketball Qld, Cairns Taipans, and a range of teams in the videos. If our younger age groups and Red & Purple divisions start from this base we can expand to setting traps, double team etc and still run a range of offensive plays.

There are some great wise words in section 1 in the coaches’ folder. And some talk about why teams play a certain way and I have chosen them as I would like to follow their philosophies. All I am asking is if you could try this for a month or so and see how it goes, if it works wonderful lets expand & get better at it, if it does not work at least you have tried it.
